Happy Camper Shrunken Hip Bottle

Made from local, sustainably sourced spalted paper birch from Lexington, Kentucky. The bottle is turned while the wood is wet. Once the form is completed and the bottle is hollowed, a dry bottom is fitted and the wet wood shrinks around it, creating a tight seal. Ideal for storing dry goods or cooking oil for camping.

This is a centuries old way of creating wooden containers, though I’ve never seen a bottle. Walnut stopper and local antler belt hook are attached using woven leather cord. Finished with shellac, linseed oil and beeswax.
